At Tickertape, I worked on data visualization and infographics for Instagram, translating financial insights into social-first content. When I took charge of social media creative direction, I shifted the approach from generic charts to platform-aware visual systems—designing for attention, clarity, and how data is actually consumed while scrolling.

Earlier infographics relied on standard formats like bar charts and pie charts adapted directly from reports. While accurate, these posts blended into the feed and averaged 300–600 likes, struggling to hold attention or communicate insights quickly on Instagram.

The challenge was to present dense financial data in a way that could both stop the scroll and break information into consumable parts without losing meaning.

I reframed the problem as a social platform design challenge. Instead of treating illustrations as supporting elements, I used them as primary data carriers, embedding numbers, comparisons, and insights directly into contextual visuals.

Each post was designed to:

  • Use illustration and imagery to represent data, not decorate it

  • Establish strong hierarchy for quick scanning

  • Balance visual impact with accuracy and legibility

The redesigned infographics led to a significant increase in engagement. While follower growth remained relatively stable, posts began averaging 2,000+ likes and eventually reached 4,000–5,000 likes, driven largely by increased sharability and organic reach.

The project demonstrated how platform-aware data visualization can extend the life and reach of information without changing the data itself.
